Alice Smith scrapbook, 1854-1902.

This collection contains one scrapbook containing newspaper poetry clippings covering love, marriage, death, the United States Civil War, and soldiers. The poems are written by several different authors, some are by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. There are also clippings of newspaper articles covering reconstruction, Tammany Hall and the yellow favor epidemic of 1878. The collection also contains several prints of engravings depicting religious, romantic, domestic, pastoral and historical scenes as well as portraits. In addition the scrapbook includes a ribbon from the 1888 Augusta Dental Association Exhibition, an undated photograph of a house, a Fruit of the Loom advertisements, and a wedding invitation to the 1874 wedding of Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell. The front matter is inscribed, "Alice Smith Talbotton Georgia Jan 1st 1862", but includes material from 1854 to 1902.
